Allow me to introduce you to your guitar soul mate…the gorgeous, curvacious and blonde Sweet E jazz arch top by our builder, my neighbor and friend Ryan Thorell.
This instrument represents the state of the arch top art in tone, expression and playability…the fact that its breeding and impecable looks cause every other arch top on the wall to cringe with envy is icing on the cake. Take a look; enjoy its perfection.
No holds were barred in the design and construction of this instrument from inception to final assembly. No reasonable person expects this level of quality at a low price point. But this mid-priced guitar begs comparison to instruments double its cost. A jazz guitarist saw this exact guitar “slay” $20k+ challengers at a recent industry show.
When this instrument lands in your hands you will know the definition of value. It is enjoyment that lasts decades after the sale.
The standard Sweet “E” jazz arch top is the most costly jazz guitar by Thorell. The great Frank Vignola switched to Thorell guitars after playing Benedetto guitars for twenty years. For non-guitarists, a reasonable analogy is one of the world’s foremost pianists switching from N.Y. Steinway to (fill in other brand here).
This particular thoroughbred has the following premium upgrades to further grace its already remarkable heritage:
The pick guard is a solid piece of ebony with Ryan’s exquisite hand carved art work transforming it into a thing of beauty, daring you not to stare.

Sitting like a crown above all the rest is the striking figured maple backing on the tuning head, with again, beautiful flare-shaped solid ebony splitting the center line.
Builder Thorell has a beauty and simplicity apparent in each and every one of his current works, simultaneously conveying classic good looks and style with a crisp freshness. Such mature artful judgment is extremely rare, always welcome and certainly unexpected from such a youthful designer.
Sound-wise this guitar follows the Thorell trend I have come to know and love. When Ryan played this guitar for me, goosebumps appeared and the hair on my arms stood up; it sounds that good. The great finger style guitarist Austin Weyand played this guitar at our “Live vs. Recorded” event at 2010 Las Vegas “T.H.E. Show”; it sounded fantastic and kept up with the jazz band sans amplifier.
